"2017 is the beginning of my story of faith, hope, trust, and perseverance. There is a lot of background information that will be missing in my story that you are about to read. The most important lesson in my story that I never want to be forgotten is that God truly works in mysterious ways. I have had to learn to trust Him and seek Him like never before through the unexpected challenges of life.
In 2017, a past co-worker approached me. She shared with me that she was miserable with where she was in her professional career. She had her teaching degree, but the most she had ever done with it was substitute teach, part-time. She had spent 12+ years in the hospitality industry. My co-worker asked me if I could help her get out of the industry. I told her I would do whatever I could to help her make a change. I updated her resume, LinkedIn, and provided her with some useful advice for the job searching process. After motivating her to begin seeking opportunities, she quickly landed a full-time, salaried position with benefits after performing a round of interviews with a company in St. Louis. Shortly after, she referred her brother to me. After helping him as well, word of mouth began to spread. I soon had individuals reaching out to me for my pro bono career assistance. This was the beginning of my company, JuJu Guru, which I named after my small Boston Terrier, JuJu.
My calling was revealed to me in 2017, and I immediately listened. I quickly realized I had my business opportunity right in front of me. Without hesitation, I began seeking out individuals that might be interested in pro bono career development services. I wanted to further test my capabilities, strengthen my knowledge and skills, and work towards defining my business. I spent all of my free time in 2017 learning as much as I could about resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn, ATS, job searching, interviewing, and more. I differentiated myself from the competition by offering career development services that were more hands-on, personalized, and motivational.
I absolutely love helping people with one of the most important aspects of their life – their career! Let’s face it, we spend most of our lives working. Therefore, it is vital to make a successful and positive career choice or change. Our jobs have a significant impact, positive or negative, on the quality of our lives. My personal goal in life is to have a positive impact on as many people as possible. So far, I am off to a great start!"
